European Camping Group is proud to announce its 28 Green Key Label winners

Jan 21, 2025 | Press release

Aix-en-Provence, January 22, 2025 European Camping Group (ECG), the European leader in outdoor hospitality, is delighted to have obtained the Green Key label for 28 of its establishments under the Marvilla Parks and Tohapi brands, for the duration of 2025. ECG has been committed to sustainable tourism for several years and obtaining this certification is tangible proof of this. The label was obtained for 26 new holiday parks, which were candidates for the label for the first time, as well as 2 establishments which obtained renewal of their label, having held the award for 15 years prior. This result has been achieved thanks to the commitment of each of the site managers who have implicated the criteria of the award with a dedicated approach after volunteering for the eco-labeling of their establishment.

ECG has a strong dedication to fostering sustainable practices and fulfilling our customers’ increasing demand for environmentally responsible options.

The first sustainable tourism label for tourist accommodations in France, Green Key is recognized in 68 countries and provides a framework and roadmap for the sustainable management of establishments. Rigorous criteria in the following areas are audited to aim for exemplary practices: environmental policy and responsible purchasing, energy, water, and waste management, stakeholder awareness, and quality of life.

“We offer outdoor vacations in a natural, rich, and diverse environment. It is therefore our duty to reduce our environmental impact and ensure that families today and in the future can enjoy relaxing holidays,” commented Philippe de Trémiolles, CEO of European Camping Group, on receipt of the awards.

    • Lighting regulation systems.

Building on this achievement and ECG’s commitment to long-term action, more than 30 campsites will apply for the Green Key label for the first time in 2025.

“AT ECG we want to be agents of change, promoting sustainable practices and reducing carbon emissions across all our activities, hand in hand with our customers and business partners,” explains Philippe de Trémiolles.

Since 2023, the group’s CSR committee has brought together representatives from various professions and entities within the organization to work collectively and foster a sustainability dynamic that translates into tangible benefits for the well-being of our customers, colleagues, and partners.

With an ambitious roadmap the committee has implemented several initiatives already, such as:

  • Reducing water consumption through leak detection, zoning of campsites and the installation of water recycling systems for aquatic areas.
  • Reducing energy consumption through the purchase of new mobile homes with enhanced insulation and light-colored roofs to reflect sunlight, which combat the increase in temperature inside accommodation, in turn reducing the need for air conditioning and energy usage. ECG has also installed appliances with energy efficiency labels.
  • Implementing renewable energy solutions such as solar water heaters and thermal and photovoltaic solar panels.
  • Using ozonated water when cleaning accommodation.
  • Obtaining League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) certification for 2 campsites that are promoting biodiversity, achieved after expert monitoring from LPO.
  • Organising CSR activities to raise awareness about nature and biodiversity with both customers and on-site teams.

About Green Key

Green Key was launched in France in 1998 under the name Clef Verte. France is the second country in the world to develop the Green Key label and, since 2021, has been the leading country for the number of certified establishments.

The Green Key label is internationally recognised via the unique logo awarded to establishments committed to a continuous and progressive sustainable tourism approach. As recommended by Green Key International, the Clef Verte team in France does not deviate by more than 20% from the international criteria. Adaptations being made by establishments must strengthen the criteria.

The international coordination team periodically monitors the French structure and those of other countries to ensure commitments are being respected.
